Catalog description

In this seminar course, students demonstrate scientific knowledge acquisition and critical thinking for transition to professional practice at the novice level. Students gain an understanding of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Professions Registered Professional Nurse and the role of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in developing and administering the Registered Nurse (RN) licensing examination. Students apply the phases of clinical reasoning and clinical judgment to prepare for success on the licensing exam. Students perform a review of all major nursing content from the perspective of the nursing process then assess their own strengths and weaknesses of that knowledge through diagnostic tools. Students develop and implement a plan for areas of needed growth and remediation. Emphasis is placed on personal growth and a holistic approach to the licensing exam as a precursor to professional practice.
