Revised Narratives from the Photographic Archive

In this course, students actively engage with photographic archives to uncover and construct new visual narratives within the evolving landscape of media and communication. Working as both researchers and image-makers, students investigate family and institutional archives to produce innovative photographic projects that challenge dominant cultural narratives. Through hands-on assignments, peer critiques, collaborative discussions, and visits to galleries and archives, students explore how photographs can reveal untold stories and provoke dialogue around themes such as environment, culture, race, identity, gender, and class. The course culminates in a student-designed zine that showcases their creative reinterpretation of archival materials, emphasizing visual storytelling as a tool for social insight and transformation.
