Feature Writing

Catalog description

This course examines what a feature story is, and how it differs from other kinds of news writing. We discuss how to pitch ideas to editors, conduct in-depth research, interview sources, and craft compelling longform multimedia stories. We focus on deep reporting and rich, colorful descriptions. We also read and analyze published feature stories, and discuss the storytelling techniques that make them effective.
