History of Journalism

Catalog description

This course explores the history of American journalism from its inception in Pre-Revolutionary times to the present day. We will learn about key personalities as well as legal, economic and cultural issues that have shaped conceptions and expectations of journalism throughout history. We will trace the path to journalism’s current challenges, such as economic uncertainty, technological change, the fragmentation of media audiences, misinformation, and lagging public trust.
