Catalog description
This course treats the law as literature and looks to literature as the source of theories about social justice. We will be using the literary method of close reading to analyze the logic and rhetoric of major civil rights decisions, as well as the literary method of historicization to analyze the impact or influence of legal concepts upon works of literature in order to ask, When it comes to envisioning a just society, how might fiction succeed where the law fails?
