Catalog description

The first decade of the new century has witnessed significant legal enactments due to the fraudulent activities of certain major business firms and the financial collapse that took place towards the end of the first decade. The course will use the cade method to examine the current legal and regulatory environment of finance and will cover corporate governance, security, broker-dealers and investment advisers’ regulation, swaps, mergers and acquisitions, corporate bankruptcy, real estate finance, health insurance regulation, financial literacy and other related subjects. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Dodd-Frank Act and their implications to financial managers will be integrated into the discussion. This course will be useful for anybody considering a career in investment banking, equity analysis, corporate finance or fund management.
