Catalog description

This course will explore the legal aspects of the music industry using Taylor Swift's disputes and lawsuits, where appropriate. We will use the various legal issues that Taylor Swift has faced throughout her career to examine topics that include copyright infringement, music industry contract matters (royalties and licensing), trademark law, and ticketing practices. Through case studies, readings, and class discussions, students will understand, explore, and analyze the legal framework that governs the music industry. It provides future arts and entertainment managers, artists and performers and anyone with an interest in the music industry the tools to help them avoid legal pitfalls and to spot issues that may require consultation with legal advisors.
