Supporting Positive Behavior and Autonomy

Catalog description

This course will provide candidates with the theoretical grounding in positive behavioral support. Candidates will develop skills in using strategies that support all students with challenging behavior and across disabilities categories (e.g., autism, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disabilities, etc.) to succeed in school, home, and community. This course will build upon the candidate’s knowledge of creating positive learning and working environments. Candidates will use reflective case-based learning to conduct functional behavioral analyses and develop behavior intervention plans, using evidence-based strategies. Through project learning and fieldwork, candidates will hone their technical and applied skills and be able to promote positive behavior and assist in the development of social skills and self-regulation across settings (e.g., early childhood support, school, respite care, transition, vocational services, and home)
