Catalog description

This course deepens teacher knowledge of the burgeoning need for integrating conventional adolescent literacies with digital technologies in the academic disciplines. The course focuses on research-based strategies for building adolescents’ vocabulary, comprehension, composition and use of digital technologies for learning throughout the secondary school disciplines (grades 9-12). Special emphasis is given to ways new media applications can be integrated in the secondary discipines. The course advances candidates use of conventional and digital media strategies for teaching and learning with adolescents, and it includes strategies for coaching and mentoring other professionals and community members involved in adolescent literacy instruction. Field experience is required.
