Catalog description

Teacher candidates will develop their teaching skills in special education by working with students with a range of disabilities and challenges, integrating theories of development, learning, collaboration, language and literacy acquisition, curriculum development, using technology, assessment and differentiating instruction in. During this one-semester experience, students will assume increasing responsibility for the classroom environment and design and management of the curriculum, reflecting regularly on all aspects of their teaching in a self-contained classroom, integrated co-teaching classroom, inclusive classroom or a combination of settings. The combined field experiences and student teaching with students with disabilities will include Pre-kindergarten through Grade 6 and Grades 7-12. In addition to the practice teaching, students will attend a seminar that supplements their learning in the classroom.
