Catalog description

With the proliferation of more digital evidence that contains geolocation data, there are more sources of evidence that can be mapped. Digital evidence that includes location data can be provided by telecommunications providers, social media companies, vehicle companies, or come from a user’s mobile device. Because this geolocation data is being collected more and more, cell site analysis and digital forensics, which were once separate investigative practices, are gradually converging. Advances in technology, including vehicle infotainment systems, integrated vehicle SIM cards and their respective cell site data, vehicle telemetry, digital license plates, mesh networks and IoT – all of which is enhanced by 5G and better Wi-Fi – translates into new sources of valuable evidence for investigators, which can be mapped out for a jury to visually understand where a victim or suspect travelled and with whom they communicated. This data can also be potentially used to find missing children and victims of human trafficking and touches every area of criminality today and this is likely to increase.
