Early Language Development

Catalog description

This introductory course provides the student with an overview of typical speech and language development in children that includes phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic developments. Understanding the development, the connections between these processes, and how they relate to human communication is critical. We will review introductory information about infants/children’s progress in both speech and language development. We will discuss theoretical principles regarding speech, language, and hearing development as it relates to human communication, cultural diversity, and how language evolves with age and time. In addition, we will examine specific topics that examine the universality and adaptability of language.
