Catalog description

An in-depth examination of the fundamental biological processes underlying the function and regulation of tissues and organ systems of the body. This course is tailored for students pursuing careers in medicine and advanced health sciences, including concepts such as cell membrane transport and dynamics, membrane potential and neuron action potential, muscle contraction, nerve and muscle excitation, ventilation, gas exchange and transport, cardiovascular physiology, solute and water absorption, biochemistry of digestion and absorption, immunology, endocrinology, and acid/base physiology. Laboratory exercises illustrate these processes through wet-lab experimentations, computer-simulated clinical scenarios, and human non-invasive testing. 3 Lecture hours and 3 Laboratory hours per week.
