Modeling of Accounting Information Systems

This course examines the design and use of accounting information systems in a business environment where accountants are increasingly expected to provide reliable, decision-useful information on demand. Topics include data flow diagrams, flowcharts, relational databases, query languages, and Resources Events Agents (REA) modeling, along with internal controls and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Using revenue and expenditure cycles as examples, students implement accounting systems with software such as QuickBooks and general ledger platforms, applying concepts to analyze company performance. The course emphasizes hands-on practice with data analytics and information management tools, including MS Access, SQL, Tableau, and advanced Excel techniques (data validation, scenario analysis, Solver, regression, VLOOKUP, Power Pivot, and more), preparing students to design, analyze, and manage systems that support effective decision-making.
