Heating Systems

Catalog description
This course provides instruction in the theory, operation, installation, and troubleshooting of residential and light commercial heating systems. Students will study gas, electric, and oil-fired furnaces; hydronic systems; and heat pumps, emphasizing combustion principles, fuel systems, venting, and safety controls. Through lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on lab activities, students will learn to analyze system performance, diagnose malfunctions, and perform service and maintenance procedures in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry codes. The course also covers electrical and mechanical control sequences, air distribution balance, and efficiency testing. Safety, professionalism, and energy conservation practices are emphasized throughout.
