This comprehensive course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills required to qualify for the CDCA I: Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant - Preliminary certification, a credential overseen by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDPB). Through this program, students will accumulate over 40 hours of chemical-dependency-specific education, equipping them to excel in the field of addiction counseling. The content includes the following content areas and associated hours: Substance Use disorder (SUD) & Recovery Knowledge (5 hours); Counseling Procedures & Strategies as Applied to Those with SUD (14 hours); Group Process & Techniques (5 hours); Assessment & Diagnosis of SUD (3 hours); Treatment Planning (7 hours); Legal and Ethical Issues Pertaining to Substance Use Disorder Professionals (6 hours). After course completion, the student can apply for the CDCA Preliminary credential, which is valid for 13 months from the date issued and is not renewable. The Preliminary certification is required before the student can take an additional course that meets the OCDPB's 30-hour Substance Use Disorder (SUD) education. Completion of both courses and related requirements qualifies the student for the Renewable Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant certification, which is valid for two years from date of issue.
