Catalog description

Theory and application of the necessary functions of the sterile processing technician are introduced as well as their role within the surgical department and the hospital organization. Students will learn various types of instrumentation spanning all of the surgical specialties. They will cover the use of instrumentation, POU decontamination, inspection, packaging, and various sterilization techniques. Sterile storage systems, case cart preparation, and department delivery practices and systems will also be covered. Students will demonstrate the use of chemical, mechanical and biological indicators. Hazards concerning the chemical agents, mechanical equipment, and biological material in the sterile processing department will be covered including the proper standard precautions. Students will be introduced to the basic principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
