An introduction to the plastics industry including fundamental aspects of plastics materials and synthesis, chemical and morphological influence on mechanical and flow properties, compounding and converting processes, testing and safety. properties of polymers that are considered for using a plastic in a given application are discussed and demonstrated in the lab. Field trips to plastics manufacturers in the area give insight to the practical use of what is learned. Co-requisite: NONE
