Healthcare Policy & Advocacy

Catalog description
This course focuses on the leadership role of nurses in the development, analysis, advocacy, interpretation and implementation of institutional and public policy for healthcare and clinical practice. The impact of current and emerging laws and regulations on healthcare financing and delivery will be examined. Processes of healthcare economics and public/private insurance will be examined in depth. Students will also practice skills in public policy advocacy as well as the development/revision of institutional policies affecting nursing practice. Philosophical, ethical, and legal dimensions of health care will be integrated into the discussion of policies and practices that affect patients, nurses and other healthcare workers.
