Catalog description

This course will build upon the student's basic math skills to calculate safe medications dosages, convert measurement systems, select appropriate dosage calculations tools for medication administrations, and determine the parameters for safe medication administration. The student will interpret information in a drug handbook and apply the knowledge to a medication order with consideration of the patient's age, weight, and medical condition. Basic mathematical concepts, decimals, fractions, ratio and proportion, and measurement conversions are included. This course is intended to prepare the student nurse for safe, patient centered administration of medications, and accurate documentation in both traditional and electronic records. Accelerated nursing students only
