EDU 6150 Shaping School Culture (3) Online (Synchronous/Asynchronous) This course focuses on factors that positively shape school culture for all children, including high expectations for achievement, staff commitment to equity-oriented mission and values, a focus on anti-racism contributions to school improvement, and the engagement of historically marginalized communities. Shared policies, practices and professional development programs that support staff and students in a culturally responsive environment in which all identities, strengths, and challenges are honored are woven into the course. The importance of frequent communication with faculty, staff, students, families, and community members, which is student-centered and asset-based using two-way communication channels that support English learners, is emphasized. The course models a culture in which staff members continuously reflect on how their identities, biases, and practices impact instructional practice and student well-being. They also use school data, current research, best practices, and theory to adapt instruction to be increasingly anti-racist continuously. How to engage staff, students, families, and community members in developing and implementing a shared educational vision for student success is explored.
