Catalog description
This course examines elementary and middle school math curricula (PK-9) and includes opportunities for students to practice teaching math skills and concepts. Application of cognitive psychology, implementation of Common Core State Standards and the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework, use of visual representations and concrete materials, and the importance of sense-making and problem solving are emphasized. Five hours of fieldwork required. Prerequisites: EDU 6200, EDU 6000 and EDU 5109 are recommended, but not required.
