Catalog description
Examines education as a social system with a particular focus on education’s relationship to social inequalities over time. Introduces the subfield of “sociology of education” and its historically important literature addressing historical and contemporary debates about education’s purpose, as well as the connections between schools and families and schools and labor markets. Parallels the educational life course, from kindergarten through college and beyond.
