Explores ideas of “otherness” and belonging in German society by examining ideas of racialized, gendered, and sexual identity from the perspective of marginalized communities in German-speaking areas. Emphasizes (dis)abled German; Jewish German; Black German; Arab, Middle-Eastern and Muslim German; and Queer German identities, and the influence of US-based social-justice movements and theories on social, scientific and political discourses in Germany from the early 20th century to the present. Taught in German.
