Catalog description

This course introduces students to the processes by which race and ethnic meanings (identities, cultures, prejudices, etc.) have been and continue to be constructed. In addition, this course examines the major social consequences of racial and ethnic meanings, including but not limited to discriminatory social policy, segregations, and racial and ethnic war and conflicts. Students will study and compare race and ethnicity across regions and nations in order to learn important distinctions, complexities, and qualities in the making and power of race and ethnicity.
