Catalog description

This course is a basic introduction to the music industry both for students interested in transferring as music industry majors or to enhance their understanding of the business aspects of music. The course introduces basic principles of commercial law and business management as they apply in the music industry including contract law, basic business entities, agency and management, copyright law, performing rights organizations, labor unions, and other subjects such as sound recording, print music publishing, musical instrument manufacture and marketing, bootlegging and piracy, and illegal downloading depending upon student interest and current trends.
