Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce the students to specific pathophysiology, assessment, and management techniques for trauma patients. Topics include mechanism of injury, hemorrhage and shock, soft tissue trauma, burns, head and facial trauma, spinal trauma, thoracic trauma, abdominal trauma, musculoskeletal trauma, and special considerations. The focus of this course is on the complex cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for paramedic clinical practice and the effective management of critically injured trauma patients in the prehospital setting. Prerequisites: matriculation in EMS program and C+ or higher in EMS 110, EMS 110L, EMS 111, and EMS 112; co-requisites: EMS 120L and EMS 121.
