Introduction to Education in a Diverse and Inclusive Society, introduces students to the field of education and invites them to examine the foundations that shape teaching and learning in today's diverse society. Students will explore the evolving role of educators in a complex, interconnected world, focusing on how race, class, gender, and other aspects of identity impact educational experiences and outcomes. Emphasis is placed on understanding the structures of privilege and oppression within education, encouraging students to reflect on their own experiences and biases. Through introductory field observations, reflective practice, and collaborative inquiry, students will begin to develop their educational philosophy and professional identity. Students will complete a 5-hour field observation in addition to their coursework.
