Catalog description

This course introduces the design and application of solar energy in building design and construction. The primary focus is on passive solar energy, daylighting and shading strategies. Discussion topics include the historical development of solar energy in buildings, designing with nature, energy conservation, heat theory and thermal comfort, solar processes, passive and active solar energy systems, thermal mass and storage, solariums, natural ventilation strategies and earth-sheltered buildings. Prerequisite: ARH/IND 140; co-requisite: ARH 141.
