EMOTIONAL/BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS

Catalog description
This course prepares teacher candidates to understand and support students' emotional well-being and growth in social skills. Candidates assess learning environments, conduct functional behavior analyses, write and monitor behavior goals and plans, and apply intervention strategies for students in crisis. They develop knowledge of classroom management methods, conflict resolution strategies, and approaches for fostering positive learning environments. Emphasis is placed on adapting environments and routines to meet students' needs while addressing legal and ethical considerations. Special focus is given to the emotional development and behavioral needs of students with disabilities. Satisfactory completion of field experience is required concurrently in EDUC 175, EDUC 275, or EDUC 375. Admission to the Teacher Education Program or permission of the Director of Teacher Education is required. GER: Stewardship
