Catalog description
The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of systemic theory and its application to couples and families. The course will be largely practical, with a brief introduction to the history of marriage and family therapy as a field of discipline. Students will examine the family life cycle, critically reflect on the uniqueness of culture within family systems, and learn to apply the genogram to assess emotional attachments within the family of origin. The class will also bring into discussion the critical intersection of the Christian faith in the practice of marriage and family therapy. Prerequisites: major only and 15 credit hours in Psychology or Instructor Approval.
