WORLD MUSICS

Catalog description

A study of representative music systems of the world, the function of these musics within the cultures of which they are a part, and a comparison of these phenomena with their Western counterparts. Seeks to provide an understanding of non-Western music systems as a means to appreciating the ethnic diversity in our pluralistic society. Open to all students; no prior musical training is necessary. GER: Intercultural Understanding
