ELEMENTARY READING ASSESSMENT

Catalog description
This course is designed to provide understanding of the theoretical background as well as the processes and methodologies of assessing reading proficiency for students from kindergarten through grade nine. Emphases are placed on assessment techniques and strategies that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of emergent literacy, word recognition, vocabulary development, and comprehension deficiencies. The course will be founded on current theories as well as integrated and balanced literacy approaches using research-based best practices, including technology. This course includes a field experience. Satisfactory completion of field experiences are to be completed concurrently in EDUC 175, EDUC 275, or EDUC 375.
