Catalog description
This course provides a platform for candidates to analyze and reflect upon the knowledge and competencies needed to develop appropriate, informed, and sensitive responses to the diverse learning needs of students in multicultural classrooms. This course considers the significance of the intersection of multiple aspects of identity, including: race, ethnicity, gender, class (SES), sexual orientation, religion, and exceptionality. Additional focus is placed on exploring the cultural and epistemological underpinnings of special education in order to form an understanding of diverse perspectives that frame the concept of (dis)ability. This course is open to non-eduation majors. Education majors must have previously been accepted into the Teacher Education Program. GER: Intercultural Understanding
