FUND OF FORENSIC ANALYSIS

Catalog description
Upper-level lab course designed to develop proper conduct for chemical analyses as applied to law enforcement. Students will learn to select and perform appropriate methods and procedures for the analysis of evidence/samples; record and store experimental results and data; report experimental results; troubleshoot and maintain analytical instrumentation and provide expert scientific testimony. It will cover the analysis of drugs, ballistic propellants, inks, paint and coatings, fire debris, latent fingermarks, DNA, and applicable basics in the modern instrumental analysis including infrared spectroscopy (IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), mass spectrometry (MS), gas chromatography (GC), and liquid chromatography (LC). This is a lab course. Offered fall of even years. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 311 and CHEM 312.
