Description: This course provides an in-depth exploration of the Spanish language as it is spoken and used in the United States, drawing on sociolinguistic, cultural, and historical perspectives. Students will examine the dynamic nature of Spanish in various U.S. communities, with special attention to the unique sociolinguistic landscape of Spanish in Oklahoma. The course will cover topics such as language contact, bilingualism, code-switching, language maintenance, and the role of Spanish in shaping Latino identities.
