Description: MSE 5163 covers fundamentals of common methods for Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) of materials, their application and advantages/limitations for engineering inspections. NDE techniques involving mechanical, optical, thermal and electronmagnetic phenomena are covered and include radiographs, ultrasonics, eddy currents, penetrants, magnetic flux, and visual methods. The course is suitable for students in materials and other engineering majors (mechanical/chemical/industrial/civil/electrical).
