Description: An introduction to the process of applying mathematical and computational techniques to understand the dynamics of infectious diseases. Classical epidemic models including the Kermack-McKendrick SIR model and its variations. The basic reproduction number as a measure of pathogen transmissibility. Mathematical aspects of epidemic models including steady states and stability analysis. Numerical solutions and simulations of infectious disease models. Includes independent projects, written reports, and oral presentations. May not be used for degree credit with MATH 5573 .
