Catalog description

Description: Historical development of major mathematical ideas and methods from ancient times through the 18th century, with a brief survey of selected later developments. Includes contributions from diverse cultures and influences from astronomy and physics. The course will emphasize understanding historical techniques and relating them to current practice. The course provides background and historical perspectives for future math teachers. May not be used for degree credit with MATH 5033 .
