Advanced Vertebrate Paleontology

Catalog description

Description: Explores vertebrate evolution in a phylogenetic, ontogenetic, and stratigraphic framework. Students discuss recent ideas in paleontology from scientific literature and/or instructor-led exercises. Appreciation of homologies and autapomorphies is gained through exploration of extant verterbrate anatomy. Communication skills are developed through oral presentations and writing. Students will demonstrate a synthesis of concepts by integrating a chosen evolutionary theme into these activities.
