Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the methodology and practice of devised theater. We will explore how you can create a piece of theatri- cal work with no script and no fi xed ending point. Through improvisation, exploration, and experimentation, students will create original pieces of performance that challenge the confi nes of traditional narrative theater. We will look at the historical origins of devised work and view recordings of existing work. Students will devise in an interdisciplinary fashion, and will work in both collaboration and on their own.
