Catalog description

Examines issues within the practice of medicine for patients and medical professionals: how healthcare is paid for and rationed; how life prolong- ing technologies are employed in end of life situations; the use of genetic testing; as well as how healthcare decisions get made for patients who are not completely able to decide for themselves, in cases of mental ill- ness, youth, or long-term care. Studies the fundamental goals and duties that guide the practice of medicine, as well as our own attitudes towards living, dying, illness, aging, and social dependence.
