Variable topics in world history, such as imperialism, nationalism, empire, global trade, war, political development, decolonization, etc. (TBA) 3413 The First World War and its Aftermath in Memoirs and Films 3 The First World War, or the “Great War,” as a watershed in world history; the causes of the war, major battles; weapons and technologies; post-war settlements and its outcomes; trench warfare experience; women’s lives and experiences at home front; the emancipation of women; trauma and the construction of memories and narratives of the war; and the war’s impact on the rise of radical political parties in interwar Europe.
