This course emphasizes biological aspects of the environment, including the effect of humans on other organisms (and vice versa), and their role in biological ecosystems. This course is designed for students who have little or no training in science and does not count as a course toward a biology major. Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory each week. (TBA) 1414 Introductory Biology: Ecology, Evolution and Diversity 4 First course in a two-semester introductory sequence for biology majors and related fi elds, introducing major principles of evolutionary theory, the unity and diversity of life, form and function in living organisms, and ecology. Three hours of lecture/discussion and three hours of laboratory each week. A prerequisite for many advanced biology courses. Satisfi es the Laboratory Science requirement of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences Liberal Studies Core. (fall) 1514 Introductory Biology: Molecules, Cells and Physiology 4 Second course in a two-semester introductory sequence for biology majors and related fi elds, introducing fundamental principles of biology, chemical basis, cell structure and function, cell energetics, cell metabo- lism, molecular genetics, and evolution. Three hours of lecture/discus- sion and three hours of laboratory each week. A prerequisite for many advanced biology courses.
