Catalog description

We discuss the diversity of Latino experiences and the central role of language in the development of a "Latino" identity, as well as its role in local understandings of ethnicity, gender, and social class. Theoretical concepts include language ideologies, identity, and critical approaches to race and ethnicity. Previous coursework in Latino Studies and/or Sociolinguistics is desirable. Prereq: 5201 or 4430/H, or equiv, or Grad standing, or permission of instructor.
