Develops familiarity with traditional Japanese and Western grammatical concepts, categories, functions, and reference tools for reading early Japanese, in close reading of selected primary texts and linguistic analysis. Prereq: 4102, 4152 or equivalent; or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 601.
