Known for its beaches, carnival, and soccer, Brazilian history is a far deeper story of colonialism, slavery, agricultural wealth, immigration, industrial development, political conflict over authoritarianism and democracy, and more. This course studies the history of precolonial Brazil to the present, with a focus on Brazilian citizenship and the challenges of creating a diverse and just society.
