This course introduces students to state constitutions and state courts as sources of legal authority, political conflict, and civic identity. State constitutional law offers an essential but often overlooked window onto topics including: constitutional interpretation; constitutional amendment; judicial appointments; federalism; popular sovereignty, and the protection of individual rights.
