Catalog description

In this advanced writing course, students apply threshold concepts of writing and rhetoric to examine scientific writing and rhetorical practices. Students are invited to engage in academic writing and research as emerging scientists, exploring how concepts like “genre” and “discourse community” manifest in the writing they encounter in their scientific study. The course offers practice in effective library research, techniques of documentation (e.g. MLA, APA), and the sharing of research findings through multiple means (e.g. research paper, video, speech, social media).
