Catalog description

In this advanced writing course, students apply threshold concepts of writing and rhetoric to examine writing and rhetorical practices in professional spaces. Students are invited to engage in writing and research as emerging professionals, exploring how concepts like “genre” and “discourse community” manifest in the writing they encounter in their chosen professions. The course teaches students about professional genres (e.g., resumes, reports, memos, introductory grantwriting) and offers practice in effective library research, techniques of documentation (e.g. MLA, APA), ethical and rhetorical use of GenAI, and the sharing of research findings through multiple means (e.g. research paper, video, speech, social media).
